If you are a meat eater you would probably be thinking steakhouse or at the very least a Sunday roast of chicken or pork, but if you are dating a vegetarian you might have to consider the vegetarian options that are available on the menu, unless you want to have your date walking away before you have even sat down. They are unlikely to be impressed with a bowl of lettuce and a few peppers on the side.

Most vegetarians will not be enticed to eat meat as once you have stopped eating meat even the smell and the thought of putting meat in their mouth will make them feel sick. Yes it is true and not just an emotional reaction. So even saying that you will remove the meat from their plate will not be an answer to their meal preferences.

Vegetarians have very refined diets so expecting them to have the vegetables while you are eating at a steak house is not the answer to dating a vegetarian. There are plenty of restaurants which cater for vegetarians and have vegetarian opinions, so find a restaurant that suits you both as this is the way to respect the choices that you have both made about your lifestyle.

Please do not ask a vegetarian if they will ever eat meat again. The answer is no as most vegetarians will have reached the stage that the smell of meat alone is very off putting, so bear that in mind if your are planning BBQ’s this summer. Most vegetarians have eaten meat in the past so they know exactly `what they are missing out on!’ so they have made the choice and they prefer to not eat dead flesh. So sorry but that is the reality. I am not sorry to be missing out on that and I feel much better for the choice too.

Please don’t be rude in saying that we are trying to make you feel bad about eating animal flesh, it is a personal choice, if you feel bad, then live with that and take responsibility for your own feelings. Your choice, just as I have made the choice not to eat animals.

Looking at or touching animals flesh will make them feel ill so please don’t expect them to help prepare the BBQ meat as they just won’t !. So if you can’t deal with all the above don’t expect to have a vegetarian as a date, but if you care about their choices you will find that they are compassionate by nature and that their choices on the menu are generally the cheaper ones.

Meat is not the epitome of good food, so don’t ridicule their choices and make bad jokes about their lifestyle choices with the other members of the party. It is offensive and not clever and it will be the last time you will see them. There is a big difference between vegans and vegetarians so it will be a good idea to educate yourself and know the difference before you offend someone’s lifestyle.
